Just as I was getting ready to walk out the door I received a phone call from Mom that Dad was ready to be released from the hospital and we needed to leave. That was a good thing...but threw my schedule off a bit for eating and running.

When I got back from bringing Dad home I was hungry but didn't want to eat too much because it looked like rain and rain is forecasted for later today. I grabbed a few pretzels to hold me over and went out.

Heavy legs to start with today, but felt better as I went on. Took a short cut right after Mile 2 was finished and went by the back of LGS instead of around LGS. When I came to the park I was thinking of taking another short cut and go 30 minutes and not 3 miles. Though my mind was going to go left my body went right...so much for the short-cut!

Glad I didn't take it...I ended up right at 3 miles today. No reason not to push for 3 miles today and my sub-conscience knew that I guess. :-)

After sitting idle all day yesterday I really appreciated getting out for a run today. I was sore from doing nothing yesterday while at the hospital with dad, so it felt good to get out and move today.

It was supposed to be hot again today so I got out and ran between 8-9 this morning. It wasn't too bad. I took a wet towel with me today it seemed to help a little bit.

I wasn't sure how far I was going to go today, since I had to go back to the hospital so I was thinking I would probably go 30 minutes but not 3 miles. Once I got going, every time I though I would take a short cut I would decide to take the long way. I made 3 miles on Stratford Dr. I went 3.1 to end at Mom and Dad'd house before my cool down. I decided that if Dad was going through everything he was with the start of dialysis then I could push a little further...so it was fitting I ended at their house.

I felt good afterwards...I just now realized that each mile I ran was under 12:00 minute pace! It was nice to have a good run after last weeks heat and humidity and struggles. I guess that's why I am keeping my journal to remind me of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Whew...another hot one this morning...well...humid anyway. I will be curious to see what I feel like once the heat and humidity go down a bit.

I ran with Kelly again today. We push each other and that is good. I ran a mile before we met. I wasn't sure how far we were going to go but I figured at least 5 and according to my schedule I needed 6 this week.

I ran the first mile and had a nice cool down before I met Kelly. We reversed our route this week so we had some of the hills at the beginning instead of the end. that really helped.
The first 4 miles were pretty good. But the heat and humidity were getting to me again. So we took it easy on Miles 5 and 6. We ended up walking more than running but were still walking at a good pace.

I hope to be able to get to a decent pace when I run a 10K with Karen in October. I am still short of a 10K distance and I am struggling. It is still 5-6 weeks away so we will see.

I am glad I have started this training soon than later. It can get discouraging, but this way I have a few extra weeks of training under my belt.

Rough one is an understatement! HOT & HUMID! Not sure if it was coming off the 5K last night, not being hydrated enough, nervous/stressed stomach, heat, humidity or all of the above. All I know is that it was rough. I went into this run with the mindset that I would walk some of it. I just walked more than I had planned.

I was able to run the 1st mile without stopping in pretty good time, but then I needed to walk for 60 seconds (a long 60 seconds) started running again and had to stop again in the 2nd mile. Still finished under 13 minutes.

the 3rd mile I think I walked more than I ran...No way could I have pushed it any more. The only thing that kept me o.k. with all of this is that many people were struggling tonight.

It was discouraging, but set-backs will happen and I am not even sure if I could have done it if I didn't run last night so at least I had one non-stop 5K this week.

I met Kay and other runners from T & T runs running group. They were great and so encouraging. I only wish I would have felt like staying to enjoy the after party. It took me a long time to feel better tonight..NOTHING sounded good to eat or drink afterwards. J. D. met me there and I wasn't very good company...I owe him one. On my way home Joe suggested ice cream...so I had a chocolate mint Klondike when I got home and that finally settled my stomach. Followed by some mashed potatoes and I was finally able to drink some more water.

I hope this weekend is better...we will see on Sunday. I am going to take a day or two off before my long run. I went 5+ miles Sunday, 1.85 on Tuesday, 3.1 Wednesday and 3.1 Thursday.

I need t think about my next event. Don't get discourage...keep moving forward!

Second 5K is in the books. Tonight was a fun run for Washington and the Budweiser Clydesdale horses have been in town. I invited Becca, from CPS to run tonight too.

What a nice surprise to see, Dianna at the starting line tonight!!!!! She was there for me at the finish line too. I will credit her for the picture below. Then Mom, Dad and Joe were there a few minutes later. It was so nice having them all there.

My first mile was a good one tonight. I felt good, so I think the short run last night may have helped with the heavy legs. The second and third miles tonight were hot and humid. I kept seeing people in front of me that were walking and couldn't figure out how they were in front of me...kind of discouraging, then some said that they were taking short cuts and not walking the full 5K. that made me feel a little better. And hey...I beat the pregnant woman and the little 5 year old. :-)

Felt a little sick during the last mile so I slowed it down a bit...met my goal of not stopping!

We will see what tomorrow's 5K brings...supposed to be much hotter tomorrow night, possible  mid 90's

After my 5 mile run/walk on Sunday, I felt it later that day. Luckily, I did not feel it on Monday so that was good news. I actually thought about going out last night for a quick run, but chose not to...I thought I better not push it too much.

I have two-5K's coming this week Wednesday and Thursday, so what should I do today? I decided I better go for a shorter run...IT WAS HARD! Between the heat, humidity and being later in the day it was tough! I am glad I did it (now that it is over). I am hoping that tomorrow's 5K won't be quite as bad. Let's hope!

I felt that my times were much better than what I thought I was doing. I was surprised I was around a 12 minute mile.

I ran 1.8 miles before I hit my cool down corner.

Kelly and I decided to do long runs together...today was our first day of training together.

Our original plan was to run at 7:30 this morning...woke up to rain. Thankfully she did not want to run in the rain either. We postponed our run until the rain stopped. 10:00 we met at the high school

I did my warm up walking to the high school lot, so I didn't start my work out until we actually started. We did a walk 1-minute, run 2-minute interval. I was curious as to what the times would actually turn out to be and they are right on with just running the entire time....and energy is spared.

The first mile flew by...was it because of conversation or the intervals? Probably a combination.

Miles 2 and 3 were good. There were a couple of times that even the 2 minute run was trying...but having someone else make you accountable really helped. During mile 3 there was an uphill section and we challenged ourselves to run to the stop sign and not walk that portion. Again, we did, but we felt it too. We we walked for 3 minutes before we started the next interval. Before we knew it 4 miles was done!

We started running the mile 5 but, we were both spent and we did our cool down walk to the high school from the middle of Kern Road maybe 1/2 mile. We didn't listen to music but had conversation throughout the run...which is what I read you should be able to do. I don't think I could do it running the entire time, but definitely in the intervals it is doable.

Yet again, a different route today. I decided to run the Washington Cherry Festival 5K today. The beginning seems to be a slightly uphill but I kept thinking...on my way back it will be downhill. It kept me going. My long run this week was 3 miles so I did that today. I also found a running partner for my long runs so that will be nice, we start this Sunday. I will be trying something different. Run 2 minute. walk 1 minute for the duration of 4 miles. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out...ENDURANCE not time is the key.

I really wanted to take a walking break after 2 miles, but kept going...I am glad I did. When the 3 miles came I felt ok so I continued to run to my cool down corner. 3.3 miles! I was remembering a few weeks ago during my 5K that the last .25 miles of the run I was trying not to get sick...I didn't feel sick today after 3.3 so that's progress in my book.

Not much of a cool down walk though. Once I hit my corner I received a call that the lawn service was here and the cats were out so I had to run home to get them in. Luckily I have great neighbors who put them inside for me.

Lesson #7- be sure to go to empty my bladder before running! Even though I didn't think I had to go to the bathroom into my first mile I thought differently. :-/ Oh the lessons I am learning along the way.

Much better first mile today both time and how I felt during the run.

Second mile went well too, nothing to eventful or uneventful. Considered stopping at WMS to use the bathroom but didn't want to stop. It wasn't too bad.

At the start of my third mile I took advantage of the shade again. and also saw the WMS XC team and slowed down to talk to Jon G and took advantage of shade again in the park. Slower 3rd mile but I'm ok with that.

While running today, I really need to find someone to run the Washington Clydesdale run with. I don't want to run it by myself.
