These small races seem to have me pace a little faster...not sure why, but I could feel it. I kept telling myself to pace, but I would hear my times and keep pushing it. Is the new RunKeeper app a blessing or a curse?
My legs were feeling it about the 2-mile mark today, about 2.5 miles in I needed to force myself to slow it down a bit...only for about 10 yards but it helped. I find when I slow down a bit I gradually work back up to my regular pace.
I pushed it the last .10 mile from the corner to the finish, and felt it when I crossed the finish line...I didn't throw up though, but felt like I wanted to. I guess I was giving it my all. I finished 2nd in my age group...only this time there were more than 2! I finished in the top 50% 2nd out of 4. :-) It's all how you look at it I guess...I also finished in the top 100...however there were only 136 entrants. :-/
Joe and Nick came out to see the race today...again, it means so much to me to have them there. Especially, knowing that they see the beginning of the race and then wait around for me to cross that finish line! I guess there was entertainment today though...someone drove right through the finish line area and took out all the cones. I guess this happened about 10 minutes after the race started so no runners were around that area.
